Recently I got the opportunity to be the London wedding photographer at F&L’s wedding down at All Saints Church New Cross, followed by a reception at the Forum in Greenwich. A little known fact – the parish priest of All Saints Church is the chaplain for Millwall football club!
The groomsmen wore 1940s swing dance shoes with black single breasted jackets, button down shirts, scarves and bow ties, with a constrasting white jacket for the groom. After a nervous wait at the altar for the groom, the bride arrived in a silver Mercedes in a ruched beige duchess satin wedding dress with floor sweeping train. A lace bolero completed the outfit. A quick moment to adjust her veil, before walking down the aisle escorted by her grandfather behind her ivory flower girls and lemon yellow bridesmaids.
Following an address by the matron of honour and best man, the couple exchanged vows and exited to Southwark Park for their formal photographs. Luckily the weather held up until the end of the pictures, and then the heavens opened with a sudden short downpour!
With the arrival of the bride and groom at the Forum, the wedding guests sat down to a traditional wedding breakfast of beef, Yorkshire puddings, vegetables and gravy with a fish option for the pescetarians, amongst the ivory roses and candelabra centre pieces. A myriad of desserts awaited, including jelly, donuts and chin chin.
In keeping with the tradition of most West African weddings, the bride and groom gave all the guests a small present as a thank you for attending – a fridge magnet, as well as traditional almond favours.
Following a musical interlude, speeches were heard from the father of the groom, mother of the bride and bridesmaids and groomsmen as well as the bride and groom. During the cutting of the three tier fruit wedding cake, the groom forgot to feed a piece of cake to the bride and had munched halfway through it! Though this was quickly rectified by a quick prompt from one of the bridesmaids!
These are a few of my favourite photos from the day – enjoy! Please feel free to leave some blog love for the bride and groom in the comments box below.
