With his cufflinks and cravat fixed (no it is not like fixing a tie, there is a proper way to tie a cravat I am told!), the groom greeted his guests arriving at the All Saints Church in New Cross.
Despite an earlier torrential downpour, the weather cleared up in time for the arrival of the bride. The groom had been interested in the bride for over 5 years, so it was apt that they married during the London 2012 Olympics, when the groom got his golden princess! The bride was ever the vision of a golden princess arriving in a coffee tulle and venice lace Justin Alexander gown. With her sister and matron of honour making a quick adjustment of the bride’s train and a quick lipstick freshen up, it was action stations. The ring bearer had been practicing holding the rings, and proudly walked first down the aisle to deliver the rings safely to the best man without a hint of nerves. If the best man looks familiar, he was married 6 weeks before! The flower girls and bridesmaids followed, wearing floaty floor length turquoise dresses.
The groom waited nervously for the entrance of the bride, but it was all smiles once they exchanged vows. Exiting to Southwark Park, the rain came back but only lasted a few minutes leaving a beautiful patch of sunlight near the bandstand.
R and K’s wedding reception took place at Bacon’s College. The venue was decorated with crisp white linen, candles, china, topiary trees and rose centrepieces. Blue lighting added to the ambience as the bride and groom danced in, along the star light floor, waved along by members of the bridal party and family with swirling handerchiefs.
The wedding breakfast was a buffet of mixed West Indian and African foods, fried fish, chicken, rice and peas, curried goat, jollof rice and salad. Carrot cake followed for dessert. After the speeches and a dance, the bride and groom greeted their guests table by table and then cut their 5 tier wedding cake which included fruit cake, sponge and red Velvet!
Here are a few favourites of the day. Enjoy!
