As you know, Greenwich is one of my favourite places to shoot, so it was on a sunny summer afternoon I braved the tourists to shoot B&K’s wedding at St Alfrege. St Alfrege is a church right in the centre of Greenwich, and has been there nearly 1,000 years. It gets its name from the Archbishop of Canterbury who was martyred on this site in 1012.
The groom and ushers waited at the church to hand out the order of service to arriving guests, whilst the bride walked the 5 minutes from home with her father to St Alfrege. The bride wore a 1950s style tea length wedding gown, snake skin style heels, and bespoke boat fascinator with birdcage veil. The boat was a homage to the costume that the bride was wearing, when she met the groom at a fancy dress party. He was dressed as Captain Birdseye and she was a trawler net! The bride did not have bridesmaids, but usherettes who wore individual summer dresses and carried a bouquet of fresh flowers identical to the bride.
After exchanging vows and signing the register, the bride and groom with their guests, exited to their reception – 16″ West, a restaurant inside the National Maritime Museum. Once the buffet of scotch eggs, mini quiches, sausage rolls, smoked salmon, coleslaw and asparagus was served, speeches from the best man, groom and father of the bride commenced. Dessert of profiteroles with warm chocolate sauce and scones with jam followed. The weather, as has been for the last couple of weeks was warm and sunny without a hint of rain, so the guests were able to eat al fresco and kick off their shoes and relax! The bride and groom opted not to have a high table so that they could mingle and dine with their guests. The younger guests were kept amused with colouring pictures and even an impromptu game of hide and seek!
Following their drinks reception and wedding breakfast, the bride and groom welcomed their evening guests at Clarence Hall, where they were treated to a Ceilidh band! The venue was decorated with vintange bunting, and favours were bird seed for feeding the local wildlife, as both the bride and groom are avid bird watchers!
Here are some of my favourite photographs from the wedding – enjoy!
