Weddings can be HUGELY stressful for kids. I remember my 3 year old nephew (he’s now nearly 19) bursting into tears because we told him that he looked handsome as a pageboy!
So should you invite children to weddings?
Well, the decision to have an adult only wedding and not invite children to weddings to free up space and budget is a tough one. It is a decision that the bride and groom have to make after much thought and deliberation. Some points to consider include:
- Will the venue be too far a drive for people with small children? Will they have to leave early to get the children home in time for bed?
- Will excluding children, make it more difficult for parents to attend your wedding if they have to find a baby sitter?
- How do you cater for and entertain small children (and big children for that matter!) during the wedding?
- Is the venue child friendly? No duck ponds to fall in!
- Do they have easily accessible baby changing faculties?
- Does the venue provide a child friendly menu? A discount for smaller portion for example. Or will the venue serve the wedding breakfast earlier?
- Will small children be asleep/tired by the time of the wedding photographs?
However, if you do invite children, you could end up with some cool kids’ photos like this….
