Recently I went to Tamworth to shoot a wedding. In keeping with tradition, the bride invited all her guests to her parents’ home for a punch reception. The guests were shocked to see the bride mingling amongst them! A coach then took all the guests to the wedding, whilst the bride and bridesmaids followed in the bride’s dad’s car.
The wedding took place in Erasmus Darwin House, which was the former home of Erasmus Darwin (grandfather to Charles Darwin) and now a museum. The bride wore her mother’s vintage wedding dress which was altered to give it a 2014 update. After the wedding, a drinks reception followed and the guests were free to explore the museum.
This was the time of the thundery storms up and down the UK, so sadly the rain fell down just as we were going into the gardens, but we went with a plan B with portraits in one of the museum rooms.
After the quick reception, the coach came back to pick up all the guests and take them back to Elford Village Hall for the reception. The weather had cleared up after this and it was a beautiful sunny summer’s afternoon. The bride had decorated the tables with vintage burlap table runners, bunting, jam jar vases and had a naked wedding cake. Favours were Percy Pigs that the guests could help themselves to and eat. The table numbers were references to pop art and music from the 80s/90s when the couple were growing up. The couple’s friends also featured with photos of their friends decorating the walls. The wedding breakfast was a BBQ, and in keeping with the DIY theme of the day, the guests cleared up and did the washing afterwards!
The groom had the whole reception laughing at his speech, and afterwards at the ‘music video’ he had recorded with his best men on his stag do.
After this the bride and groom cut their cake, and generous helpings were served to the guests with strawberries and cream.
Beautiful!
